A Henry Family is a Happy Family

When it comes to family portrait sessions, one of my favorite locations happens to be shipyard Park in Hoboken New Jersey. The park is clean and houses a beautiful fountain, and stage with lovely cement steps, a giant brick wall in the back as well as a lovely green lawn facing the city skyline.

I usually start my clients in this location, and then we head over to the pier as well as the park just a short walk away. There are several piers to choose from depending on what the client is looking for as well as how many people are on either one at any given moment. I also take the position of the sun into consideration.

There's a beautiful Hoboken mural drawn in bright pastel colors. There are also food trucks line your walk during the summer season. Your lead on to the end of the boardwalk which has a lawn the views are amazing and my clients always get a kick out of the kids running to reach the end first.

It's not every day you get to photograph such a lovely family. But I had the opportunity of photographing Sarah, Jay and Jackson for the second year in a row. They are such a lovely family, full of smiles and so much love between them. Jackson is a total ham and knows he's adorable. He loved hugging his parents, and just being himself on camera. He was excited the entire time and made my job super easy.

Sometimes when kids no longer want to be held, chasing them, asking them to show you stuff and just capturing them running and being happy comes out better than trying to get forced smiles and making the experience uncomfortable for the child. Jackson was happy throughout thankfully!

We even made our way all the way down to a tiny beach closely where you usually see dogs and their owners tossing a ball or simply going for a stroll. Shipyard Park truly has so many great options for clients to have a vast array of backgrounds for their album. And remember, this session was done in 30 MINUTES!!

During my family shoots I love to capture couple shots. A reminder of where it all began...

What are your favorite family photo shoot moments?
